Summary: Mitzi pulls some strings to organize a special arrangement that Nova has admittedly fantasized about for some time, suddenly finding herself roped into an unexpected predicament she won’t soon forget.

*Author’s Note*: I had a hard time coming up with a good prompt for this, and to be completely honest it isn’t really Halloween themed at all orz shame on me, I know, I’m sorry! In an attempt to make things a little more acceptable, I decided the party/part 2 follow up that I will (hopefully) get to at some point will just involve a Halloween themed party…which means this piece still counts, right? Even if it doesn’t I’m happy with how this turned out, I know it’s another abrupt ending but I really liked the cliffhanger and enjoyed writing the platonic interaction between Nova and Mitzi…they’re good friends, even if Mitzi doesn’t really have any qualms finding trouble to get Nova into. She’s just trying to be a good wingman, after all ;D based on a prompt i got on my self insert blog!
_____

“You did this!” Nova turned to see the culprit she was addressing sitting nearby. A chestnut haired woman with a smug, self-satisfied smile on her face. “You set this whole thing up…it’s your fault.”

“My fault? I thought you’d be thanking me,” the sly schemer, also commonly referred to as Mitzi, replied as she raised a hand to her chest. “After all, isn’t this the kind of situation you’ve been so desperately awaiting?”

Summary: Sometimes the silence between them is actually the loudest thing in the room. And sometimes the words they don’t want to hear are the ones they need to hear most.

*Author’s Note*: I know this ends kind of abruptly but…maybe I’ll be inspired to do a part 2 at some point? For some reason I’m apparently incapable of branching out from similar prompts for this particular ship (this one is also quite reminiscent of another one shot I did) but I really can’t find it in myself to change this because I do quite like how it turned out…and sometimes you just have to accept the bad stuff and use it as a stepping stone to something better.
_____

It’d been a while since she’d had a chance to sit with him like this. Huddled together in the apartment he was hesitant, arguably terrified, to ever risk opening up to anyone. That’s how he felt about everything in his life…everyone. Always keeping people at arm’s length and even further, a flame that singed anything that tried to get too close to its heat. But somehow she’d managed to convince him to let her in. She didn’t mind whatever skeletons he happened to be hiding, and would have been happy to help him bear those burdens if he could ever find the strength to share them with her.

Separation

Summary: When he leaves, all she wants to do is follow. Instead she’ll just have to settle for serving as an incentive for him to return.

*Author’s Note*: I’m fairly certain I’ve actually written another Mordecai fic almost exactly like this…but the internal commentary and discussion between the two is obviously different. I’d already drafted it before I realized my error, so I decided it couldn’t hurt to keep it, it’s not like this kind of exchange is an isolated incident anyway.
_____

“He’s sending you out on another one?”

Nova didn’t have to ask…she did so out of habit. It was partly just to get him talking, to see if she could get a more personal response from him. But Mordecai didn’t have a lot of personal feelings about anything, at least none he was willing to share. She’d coaxed him to mention a few words about himself here and there, random and rare occasions that she liked to think she was getting better at facilitating. Not because she wanted to manipulate him in any way, but because she wanted to understand him…because she wanted to be close to him.

Worth It

Word Count: 1,178

Summary: Nova attempts to offer Mordecai the kind of support he’s always rejected, that he feels obligated to ignore, and he discovers that for the first time someone may actually be getting through to him.

*Author’s Note*: Just a short, sweet little thing for me and Mordecai. I always want to expand our relationship and write about him more, but for some reason coming up with something useful is a little difficult for me. But this turned out nicely, so that’s all that matters! Also, I mention being “human” in here because…I mean, in terms of the universe, the characters don’t actually consider themselves cats and stuff, so. Just go with it lol, but they’re still very much their furry selves. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy!
_____

Mordecai wasn’t used to sharing anything with anyone. Not his feelings, his opinions, his doubts. Of course, he also wasn’t the type to beat around the bush when it came to something he found absurd. He would denounce it without pause, and occasionally suffer minimal scolding for his attitude. But it was always easier to deal with that kind of response, with something so inconsequential and meaningless to him. Sometimes, even the words that came from the few people he actually held in high regard were petty and inconsequential to him. He’d never engaged in much self-reflection about why he thought this way, since it had never really bothered him. He’d adapted this behavior as a benefit to himself…and now it seemed like she was trying to undo all of that.

Summary: Nova gets Mordecai something for his birthday, which is a risky move in and of itself. Much to her surprise, she receives more appreciation than scolding for her bold and thoughtful action.

*Author’s Note*: The 28th is Mordecai’s birthday!! So many things are happening at the end of this month/beginning of next, it’s a little hard to keep up with it all ^^’ I wasn’t actually sure I was going to have time to whip something up for him, but I really wanted to, so even if this isn’t the most phenomenal piece ever I’m still glad I was able to do a little something just to acknowledge the day. Despite everything, Mordecai has consistently been a presence with me for the past couple years. It’s hard for me to keep him at #1 because I don’t really have anyone to discuss him and his series with, but every time I see him or am reminded of him, I get overwhelmed with the same love I’ve felt for him from the beginning. There are a lot of things I like about him, and he’s just really special and important to me…but anyway, happy birthday to him! Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy.

_____

Fumbling with the object in her hands, Nova wasn’t sure if she had the courage to pull this off. It seemed like such a simple task, but when he was involved, things were usually more complicated. Not just because of what he meant to her, which admittedly exaggerated the inherently stressful context of the situation for her, but because he was quite a shrewd individual, and hard to please. His mood was an elusive mystery, almost always sour and seemingly impossible to improve. She’d caught him being amiable on a few occasions, even smiling of all things. And those few times when he did, it took her breath away, stilled her heart and flooded her chest with a rare warmth. They were smiles she never wanted to forget, and she hoped the future would afford her more lucky chances to see them. Right now, the state of his mood was one of the most important things she needed to keep in mind.

Summary: It’s nothing more than a short interruption, but to both of them, even exchanges like these feel monumental.

*Author’s Note*: First proper original fic I’m posting on this page! I’ve been…all over the place lately. Emotionally, physically, mentally, just…ugh. I made a New Year’s Resolution to give some more attention to my lesser known—and lesser interacted with—F/Os in my fics this year…and proceeded to careen away from that option like an off-course comet orz idk if I’ll change my tune any time soon, but for now my main 3 make me really happy, and I’m going to focus on that happiness while I can. ANYWAY, long intro to say: this is a Mordecai piece, I wrote another small one like this to try and inspire myself to write more Mordecai stuff, and even if it ends up not working, I’m glad I was able to do these two and the New Year’s one at least. I hope you enjoy!
