Black Out

Word Count: 2,281

Summary: A power outage strikes S4 HQ in the dead of night, plunging the distinguished building into darkness. Nova and Fushimi are left stranded in the shadows, ultimately deciding their best bet to combat this mess (really their only option) is to pinpoint the cause.

Author’s Note: A new K Proj fic after all this time?? Well, I can’t technically count this as entirely new, considering this has been in my drafts since last year. I kept putting off posting it because I get self conscious writing for/adding in other chara interactions, and I just worried that this premise was too embarrassing…but it’s actually really good and I want to post it so I’m going to lol. The mention of it being winter tells you just how long I’ve had this in the works. Just a cute little fic inspired by something that happened in one of the light novels (the previous event Saruhiko mentions at some point in the fic) with some additional character interaction thrown in…hopefully it really isn’t too awkward ^^’ thanks for reading!

“This is, like, the worst thing ever.”

Summary: Caught in the midst of a battle he really wants nothing to do with, Fushimi finds himself faced with the decision to cling to his selfishness or extend a helping hand to an unusual and defenseless stranger in need.

Author’s Note: Happy 2 year anniversary to me!! :D In case it wasn’t obvious, today is the 2 year anniversary of me selfshipping consistently with both Saruhiko and Ren! It’s been…quite a whirlwind, and I’ve been especially struggling with a lot of things as of late, but I decided it couldn’t hurt to at least try to get back into the swing of things. And what better way is there to start than by working on anniversary pieces! This is a little different than my usual fair because it’s from Saruhiko’s POV, and details the real first time Saruhiko and Nova encountered each other, way back before either of them were in the familiar setting I much prefer now lol. Despite being rusty I think this actually turned out alright, although I feel I could have done more, but I didn’t want these to be late. Oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ thank you for reading!
__________

This is where all the trouble started, and hopefully where it was all going to end. The air crackled with chaos and adrenaline and panic, powers erupting and escalating the frenzy as flailing forms struggled and clashed haphazardly. The calm before the storm had long since past, the paltry defense established by the officers that’d been waiting for them weakening by the second under the fury of their fiery siege. These people were nothing more than lackeys, poor aimless Clansmen that had no King to fight for and no real cause to uphold.

Beach Day

nyandereneko: (Default)
Word Count: 961

Summary: Beach days aren’t really their thing, but when they’re together, everything becomes at least a little bit more enjoyable.

Author’s Note: My first personal entry for F/O February, and it’s not even that exciting lol. I’ve been writing some things for my friends for the other days, and I plan on continuing to do that for any of the prompts I feel fit their selfships better than my own. It’s funny, because I really suck at coming up with scenarios for beach related prompts, considering the beach isn’t really my favorite place to vacation, but as demonstrated in this fic, I can usually find something to like about it if I have my f/o(s) there to make things a little more bearable u.u

Summary: On the hunt for her missing partner one evening, Nova stumbles upon Saruhiko asleep in one of the most unassuming places she could think of.

Author’s Note: Just a short self indulgent fic that’s been on my list for a while. I can’t help envisioning what it would be like to lay under the kotatsu with my f/os during the fall and winter months, it just seems so convenient and cozy and the perfect setting for snuggles ;w; I really wish I could enjoy that kind of thing with them irl, but alas. I suppose being able to write about it is one of the next best things! Also I couldn’t resist the idea after remembering what happened in canon when Akiyama and Benzai rescued a junk kotatsu from the side of the road heilsfjelsjfes
__________

It was one of the most endearing sights she’d ever laid eyes on. So peaceful, so serene. As still and quiet as a painting. Peering through the gap in the door, she couldn’t decide if it would be a better idea to leave him alone or join him. She’d observed him in similar positions plenty of times before. Usually when they were curled up together, drifting in and out of consciousness in an attempt to recuperate some of the energy that their routine duties constantly drained from them. In the process of tracking him down this evening, having no inkling of where he could have disappeared to and failing to get in contact with him, this certainly wasn’t one of the places she’d planned on investigating.

Word Count: 1,083

Summary: Nova and Saruhiko find themselves attending to their duties in the cold one afternoon, and there’s more than one way to try and stay warm.

Author’s Note: This is a little something I whipped up as part of celebrating the anniversary of my self insert blog! It doesn’t really have anything to do with that, thematically or otherwise, I just wanted to write something nice and this prompt has been on my list. So I figured why not knock it out, and I think it turned out really cute ;w; I’m happy with it, and that’s all that really matters; thank you for reading!
__________

“Ugh, it’s freezing,” Nova lamented as she crossed her arms. She pinned her ears flat against her head and wound her tail around her legs in a paltry attempt to stave off the chill.

“Hey, I don’t want to hear you complaining. I thought you liked this type of weather?” Saruhiko rebutted, seeming less than affected by the nip in the air despite the matching uniforms they sported.

Word Count: 1,398

Summary: Nova doesn’t plan on leaving the annual holiday celebration without exchanging this particularly festive traditional with the one she loves.

Author’s Note: Such an original title, I know, orz but I was too lazy to think of anything more creative. This is just a short holiday piece I wrote for myself because I really wanted to write some selfship stuff and I figured this was as good an opportunity as any. Just short and sappy because that’s my self insert MO. I also realize there seems to be some implied funny business at the end but that wasn’t my intention, I swear!! Take it as you will I suppose lol, and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays again to everyone and their wonderful F/Os! Also the suit from this official art is what I imagined him wearing because I love it lol, I know I already featured it in another piece but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I just love it that much!
__________

This year’s holiday festivities had gone off without a hitch, which was a noteworthy accomplishment in and of itself. Considering the track record of strange occurrences that tended to pop up at this time of year, or really any time for that matter, the peaceful uneventfulness of it all was a welcome relief, a pleasant surprise. Tackling supernatural mishaps day in and day out wore on the operatives more than they realized, more than they were accustomed to noticing in the first place. That was the nature of their profession, and none of them wanted to take this temporary reprieve from said chaos for granted.

Word Count: 2,678

Summary: Caught up in the tail end of a detainment mission that’s been pushing not just she, but the rest of her companions to the edge, Nova disregards her own limits and commits to making a final stand for the good of the organization and the city.

*Author’s Note*: Was inspired to write something tense and dramatic like this a while ago, finally got it typed up. Nothing special but a bit of a deviation from my usual MO in an effort to expand my horizons a bit.
_____

The air was heavy, smothering. It was almost enough to clog her lungs, to disrupt her senses long enough to make her lose sight of the objective. Lightning shattered the sky, the resounding thunder evidence of the broken pieces that scattered in its wake. Rain pounded the pavement, splashing and saturating every crack in the asphalt as she drug herself forward. She could have commanded the storm if she liked. She could have cleared a space in the downpour, formed a barrier like a dome to keep herself dry and safe…but in her fatigue she couldn’t spare any concentration for even the slightest exertion. There was no sense in wasting the dwindling dregs of her energy on such an empty, unproductive gesture.

Summary: In the aftermath of their impromptu reunion, Nova and Saruhiko make an attempt to figure out what’s changed between them, how they both ended up in this situation, and what’s worth preserving of their previous and mildly short lived companionship (if anything).

*Author’s Note*: Part 2 of my pre-S4 verse introduction, the first of which you can read here.
_____

A startled yelp jumped from her throat as she rounded a corner and was abruptly ambushed. A hand clamped firmly and deftly over her mouth to stifle it, and her first instinct was to struggle and lash out against her captor. Twisting and flailing to get a better angle on the hand so she could sink her teeth into it, she dug her claw-like nails into the arm that seized her torso. The culprit hissed sharply but refused to ease their hold, lifting her from the ground despite her thrashing. They drew her into a secluded alcove before finally deeming it safe to release her. They thrust her out of their grip with a curse, and as she spun around to face her opponent, innate reflexes ready to strike, a nauseating wave of regret filled her stomach.

Summary: Nova reflects on the details of her transition following her acceptance of the Blue King’s surprising offer to join his ranks. However, even in her contemplation she can’t seem to ignore the one constant that refuses to cease tormenting her thoughts. As much as she knows she needs to forget, she can’t find it in herself to banish those memories altogether…he’s always been the only real source of comfort in her darkest hours, after all.

*Author’s Note*: Pre-S4 verse introduction, involving Nova and Saruhiko’s unexpected reunion when they both happen to end up at S4 and the stressful exchange that ensues. To be continued in part 2.
_____

The facility’s pristine, elegant interior had become unusually comforting to her despite her first impressions. She wasn’t sure if it was the result of some kind of twisted Stockholm syndrome, or if she’d developed a genuine acceptance of the place. It was hard to believe the latter was possible, considering the short amount of time she’d been here. But so much had transpired in that time, so much had changed…both around her and within. She hesitantly pressed her fingers to her chest, applying minimal pressure as she focused on the fabric’s smooth, high quality texture. It was unmistakable evidence of the uniform she’d be wearing every day for the foreseeable future. To her surprise, she didn’t actually find it all that uncomfortable, either.

Summary: Nova catches sight of Saruhiko in an unexpected outfit one afternoon and is naturally compelled to investigate the cause.

*Author’s Note*: I know I haven’t posted anything in forever, and this isn’t even one of the pieces I’ve been working on for over a week now, attempting to get back into the swing of things for September orz but when the official k twitter account posts this advertisement for their most recent pop up shop and it instantly sends me into cardiac arrest, that kind of jumps to the top of my to do list lol. Just a short sweet little thing inspired by how I not so shortly or sweetly lost my mind upon seeing that pic for the first time. I hope you enjoy!
_____

“What are you wearing?”

She didn’t mean to sound so startled, but her response was involuntary. The words came out before she had a chance to stop them, and she hoped her tone hadn’t offended him. In the event that it had, she was more than prepared to make it up to him. Examining him intently from head to toe, attempting to process what she was seeing without even being aware of it, she was admittedly starstruck. The man standing before her was all buttoned up in a suit befitting the atmosphere of some fancy gathering, at least from what she could tell. She couldn’t recall if anyone had recently mentioned that such an event would be taking place. If they had, it seemed like something she would have definitely remembered…perhaps she really was just out of the loop this time around. She could live with that, though, considering the pleasant surprise of getting to see him all dressed up was already starting to make up for it.

Summary: He wants to know about the moment she realized she was in love with him, and she finds herself a little overwhelmed by the question…but not averse to answering it.

*Author’s Note*: This is another warm up prompt based on one of those writing sentence starter posts, my go to when I don’t know what to write. I’ve been trying to tweak Fushimi’s characterization a little since I usually feel like I write him way too OOC, and I’d like to take steps to rectify that a bit. Other than that, this is just another sweet little drabble, I hope you enjoy!

Sweltering

Summary: Although they may not be huge fans of the summer heat, the one thing they can’t deny is that no matter how hot it gets, it’s still hard to be averse to being close to one another.

*Author’s Note*: This is one of my first warm up prompts, which basically just means it’s shorter than usual. I like to aim for at least 1000 words when I write stuff, which may not seem like a lot, but especially when I’m not feeling the best it can be quite the struggle. I haven’t written properly in about a month, mostly because, again, I haven’t been feeling the best, so I did a couple of these shorter prompts to try and get the gears turning again. Also, Saruhiko and I aren’t very fond of warm weather, and since it’s summer where I live, I decided to vent some of my frustrations a bit lol. I hope you enjoy!
_____

Nova hugged Saruhiko’s arm as they strolled along, cheek glued to his warm skin, fingers dimpling the surface where they curled in against it. Her gaze occasionally lingered on the people passing by, but only in fleeting curiosity, like when something flashy or distinct flickers in the corner of your eye. The air was overwhelmed with suffocating sunlight as they meandered through the city, taking refuge in the shade of whatever buildings or people they could employ. Each inhale felt more like a curse than a relief, only serving to replace the breath that was heated from within with more of the same unpleasant air. Getting used to—or at least putting up with—hot weather was just another part of being human, although Nova supposed it would have been better if she framed that observation in a different, less hyperbolic way.

Summary: Hot tea or coffee is usually more than enough to help them greet the morning, and sometimes it even serves as a catalyst for the host of playful shenanigans that have become amusingly commonplace between them.

*Author’s Note*: I’ve been wanting to write something like this for forever but I just never got around to it. Now I finally have! It kind of trailed off into…something I didn’t expect in the end, with Nova getting pissy over nothing, but…I kind of liked how it played out, idk, if that’s what came out while I was writing it I felt like it was just natural and good enough to leave it. So this fic kind of veers off halfway through into something I wasn’t anticipating, and I’m sorry for that, but I still think it’s sweet and good. I miss writing things for me and Saruhiko T^T hopefully I’ll have more ideas and time to do that soon, but until then here’s this humble offering. I hope you enjoy!
_____

When she’d first started working for this distinguished supernatural police force, mornings were practically always hectic and wild. The flow was hard to keep up with as people bobbed and weaved and dashed through the halls, all rushing to get to their respective stations on time. Sometimes, things still turned out that way, especially when emergencies arose. But her experience had also exponentially settled and improved, and she could attribute most of that improvement to one simple individual. First of all, even when he was stressed, he usually did his best to conceal it. Even if you could see the agitation and exhaustion in his eyes, he never wavered in his pace, and completed every assignment he was tasked with on time, if not a little sooner. That disciplined nature of his helped influence her own routine, as well as the fact that he was her primary superior. She learned quickly that if she didn’t answer to him in the manner he expected, she was sure to face a barrage of consequences that she swiftly became eager to avoid at all costs.

As my final introduction to this page, I decided to post my writing masterlist! Or repost it, I suppose. I usually host my fics on Tumblr, but this site seems to have a much better set up for it (which I why I made a page in the first place), so from now on I think I'll mainly be posting fics here and just linking them elsewhere.

I'll update the list periodically (usually once a month to cover the fics I've done over that time.) I tend to only feature the main 3 selfships I've written the most for, and I'm not sure if I'm ever going to go back and change that so every fic I've ever written is on this list, but for now I'll just keep it the way it is.

List under cut for length.

ALSO: the tags linked to the character names (the otp: blank ones) are the tags for those characters/selfships on my self insert blog. They usually contain posts that remind me of that particular F/O, pics of that F/O, and any writing I do for them!

Word Count: 2,735

Summary: Nova and Fushimi have a heart to heart about the year they’ve spent together, and what it means to them.

*Author’s Note*: A fic I wrote to celebrate my one year anniversary with Saruhiko and oof, I’m trying not to get stupidly teary. It’s hard for me to describe exactly how I feel about him and what he means to me…he’s just extremely important to me. His character interests me, makes me feel good, and I identify with him more than I should, probably because I read into things too much and make a lot of stuff up. But he’s still special to me, immensely so, and probably always will be. This takes place on the roof of building where we first said I love you to each other (fic here) and uhhhh just jgilejslgs. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy!

_____

For once, the facility was mostly quiet. As far as she could tell no squads had been sent out or vehicles dispatched to take care of one of the several criminal activities that were probably unfolding in the city right at this moment. They would come to the Captain’s attention soon enough, and when they did, appropriate measures would be taken to quell whatever unfortunate chaos had been stirred up. Things would be put back in their place, culprits would be subdued and taken in, and the setting in which such events had transpired would end up looking as uneventful as it had before it’d been employed as a battle ground for supernatural exploitation. Nova was just glad no one was asking her for anything, prodding her to do something, reminding her of some task she needed to finish. She was used to the workload by now, even fond of it to a certain extent, to the duties and itineraries that kept this complex operation running. But tonight she had her own agenda, a special occasion that took precedence over anything else.

Summary: Following her induction into Scepter 4, Nova receives her first official assignment as an apprentice to the organization’s third-in-command. Despite a rocky introduction, their meeting has a greater impact on them than they ever could have anticipated.

*Author’s Note*: The first of a number of prompts I plan to do that have been plucked off of this prompt list. I’ve been dying to write some stuff for this selfship because it’s my favorite thing right now, but there has been a LOT of stuff going on irl, this month is just gonna be so busy and crazy and. Ugh. Anyway I’m taking refuge in Fushimi but I needed some prompts to stir my creative juices, so here’s my “official” version of our first meeting. I hope you enjoy.

_____

Finally, Nova’s processing as a new recruit was complete; she was officially inducted as a Blue Clansman, a fresh face joining the ranks of Scepter 4. She was grateful, nervous, curious, excited…so many emotions churned inside her she couldn’t settle on just one. She’d been granted a week of leave by the Captain in order to get her bearings, starting with the necessities of learning the headquarters’ layout, getting accustomed to her new schedule, receiving her uniform and her saber, and acclimating to her dorm.
