Summary: There’s nothing better than admiring the sand and sea with the person you cherish most under the soft, pale light of the moon.

Author’s Note: Although I don’t have him listed as a main anymore, Cyrus still occupies a very significant place in my heart. I mean, I still feel the same about him as a I always did, even if he’s not on my mind as much/I’m not developing things for my selfship with him as actively. But damn, he’s still so beautiful and sweet and wonderful and amazing…and today is Octopath’s 2nd anniversary! So, while I didn’t originally plan on making anything for it, I’ve been thinking about Cyrus a bit more frequently and changed my mind to whip up this short and sweet little exchange. Thank you for reading!
_____

The sky was clear and the moon was full, its pale glow serving as a brilliant centerpiece amidst countless clusters of shimmering stars…it was the kind of setting that took her breath away. She loved calm, quiet evenings like this; they tended to create moments and experiences she would’ve held onto for an eternity, if only she could. The gusts carried in on the current of the uneven waves were cool as they caressed her, promptly sweeping away any humidity or worries that happened to linger in her head longer than she liked. Here on the coast just outside of town, basking in the light of the moon’s ethereal visage while the tide ebbed and waned against the shore…there were few places she felt more safe and at ease. Then again, just being in a certain someone’s presence also had a similarly soothing effect on her.

Summary: Awoken from her slumber by the sound of frantic scratching at her window in the middle of the night, Nova is drawn into a conflict that she knows she’s better off avoiding…but when it comes to him, she just can’t seem to stay away.

Author’s Note: The last of my loosely associated 3 part drabble set for this week, and I can’t believe how long it ended up being fhieslfes I really am just on a roll when it comes to this stuff. I’m not sure if my posting will start to slow down a little soon because I’m starting to get a little busy with other things, but I still plan on posting more fics for this ship (and others) it’s just that this one, obviously, inspires me in a way I haven’t encountered in awhile, which is pretty nice…I guess I don’t have too much more to say than that lol. Thank you for reading! :D
_____

“Nova! Nova, wake up!”

That voice…it was vaguely familiar to her, although not instantly recognizable. It didn’t sound like the product of just another dream; it was too clear, too defined. The grating noise of something sharp frantically scraping against glass jarred her even more, and the young woman’s ears twitched as she struggled to open her eyes, glancing around without making any effort to move just yet. The scraping intensified, the voice continued beckoning to her in that same distressed tone, begging her to do something she couldn’t quite make out. Rubbing her eyes and pushing the covers back, she sat up slowly, posture going rigid as her eyes finally fell upon the form that was awaiting her at the window.

“C’mon, don’t just sit there and stare! Let me in!”

Summary: Coming to terms with a secret she would have been better off not knowing, Nova faces the consequences of her nosiness at the hands of the last person that wanted her to find out.

Author’s Note: I don’t know what it is about this fic, but I just really like the way it came out. I went back and forth a lot about whether or not I was going to rework it, despite complaining about the fact that I didn’t want to do that, because I felt like I messed up the flow and characterization and how I originally wanted this whole thing to play out…but playing around with it, I think I was able to get closer to the exchange I wanted without having to start from scratch. If I really wanted to, I suppose I could write an alternate scenario to go with this, but for now I’m just gonna present it as is. Thank you for reading!
_____

“Li, just let me go, let me--”

“Be quiet.”

Ah, he was angry. Well, that was understandable, she supposed, considering the veritable nightmare that’d just transpired between them. The less than fortuitous turn of events that had ended in Nova uncovering the sordid, closely guarded details of his little--or rather, actually quite big--stash of secrets. She didn’t know where he was hauling her, dragging her by the arm like a leashed animal. There was no escaping or breaking his iron grip that was more fittingly like a shackle around her wrist. But the destination wasn’t that important, was it? Not as important as the mind boggling, life altering revelation that the previously innocent looking and charming man she’d had a hand in setting her best friend up with was actually an infamous, notorious, lethal Contractor.

Summary: Chased down by an unknown assailant with no obvious means of escape, Nova starts to think this might actually be the end for her…that is, until a mysteriously benevolent third party decides to intervene.

Author’s Note: This is the first fic in a technically 3 part series that I plan on posting for this week! I don’t have too much to say about it other than I just love writing for this series/self insert and I don’t really plan on stopping any time soon lmao. Thank you for reading!
_____

She’d managed to stay out of trouble for this long, but apparently her luck had finally run out. Taking every turn she saw, dashing down alleys and backstreets like her life depended on it, no doubt running herself in circles in this maze of a city. It was only a matter of time before she hit a dead end, or found herself right back where she’d started. It wasn’t like her navigation skills were all that terrible, but when you’re preoccupied with running for your life, you tend to get turned around whether you planned to or not.

Word Count: 1,356

Summary: Nova and Dazai have a heart to heart about some of the less appealing parts of his past.

Author’s Note: This is a short and sweet fic to round off the week. CW for discussion of self harm, scars, etc. Not too graphic, but if that stuff makes you uncomfortable I’d steer clear of this piece. It’s not as expansive as I would have liked, and I may either revamp or revisit the topic with a similar/more lengthy piece, but the format falls in line with what I had planned to whip up for this week, so I’m just posting this one as is. Just an excuse to write some cute fluff as well as share one of my headcanons about Dazai’s ability (that it has a knock back effect that has a physical impact on him every time he uses it) because it’s one of my favorites and I just think it’s neat lol. Thank you for reading!
_____

Beams of silver light streamed through the window, bathing the room in their pale, frosty glow. They pooled on the bed and cascaded across the floor, creating an almost ephemeral scene that felt even more surreal to the individuals that were caught up in it. Despite the chill that one might be tempted to associate with such a display, the atmosphere in the room was undeniably warm, inviting. That was the atmosphere they’d created for themselves, though, the feeling they’d kindled between them to suit the needs of their intimate exchange. It was strange for them to be together like this…or at least, it was something they were still getting used to. But adjusting to this new normal wasn’t unpleasant, or even that difficult…it just took time.

Summary: Nova and Desair have a heart to heart that turns a little more passionate than they anticipated.

Author’s Note: That summary makes it sound like this goes somewhere suggestive or something but I swear it doesn’t fhieslfhesf this was just an idea for a fic I had a while ago, I’d like to do one in the reverse where Nova offers Desair this kind of comfort…I’m sure I’ll get around to it someday lol. Thank you for reading!
_____

“That must have been rough.”

His words were an understatement, but Nova wasn’t going to judge him for that. It was a heavy, uncomfortable subject, one she tended to avoid bringing up if she could help it. Sharing the sordid details of her past was difficult, harrowing, but lately Desair had become the type of person she felt she could trust. As odd and unlikely of a development as that sounded considering the state of their initial acquaintance, neither party could deny that the connection they shared now was not just profound, but sincere.

Word Count: 1,070

Summary: After a bad day, what better way is there to unwind than finding solace in the arms of a dear friend.

Author’s Note: This is a fic I’ve been meaning to write for a while orz digging into the drafts is always such an ordeal lol. Anyway, the first time I saw this scene in BNA it made me want to lose my mind because I couldn’t believe Shirou could be so RUDE but that’s okay I forgive him lol. I don’t even remember if there was a specific vent thing I was writing this fic for in the first place, either, so now I guess the conflict doesn’t really matter. The point is, from the beginning of this ship I’ve seen Shirou and Nova as the type to act the same way around each other whether they’re in a platonic or romantic relationship. I mean, they kiss more and hold hands when they’re dating, but. They feel comfortable enough around each other to just be chill and intimate like this at any point, so I decided to write a fic to show that dynamic off a little. Thank you for reading!
_____

“Luna, you home?”

Slamming the door shut behind her with a resolute click, it was clear by every aspect of her appearance that Nova was perturbed. Slipping her shoes off one at a time before tossing them in the usual spot, they clattered noisily against the hard floor. Any number of things could have been the catalyst for her less than amiable mood, but at this point the cause wasn’t really that important. How she reacted, what she did with these feelings now was the real issue, and she didn’t really know how to deal with them. She struggled to spare them any significant thought, focusing instead on how they affected her, how frustrated and stressed out and all around bad they made her feel.

Summary: An impulsive action ends up leaving Nova stranded in some strange place she’s never seen before. What she experiences there is more harrowing than anything she could have anticipated.

Author’s Note: Big cw for abuse!! Physical abuse, mentions of alcoholism, cursing. Not good things!!! There are unsettling and upsetting things that happen in this fic so read at your own risk!!!

I finished s2 of DTB not too long ago, I couldn’t help binging it, especially considering how controversial it apparently was. Not legitimately (well, I guess that’s up for debate) but from what I saw pretty much everyone agreed that it was garbage and they wished it didn’t exist. But, ofc, I was compelled to sit through the dumpster fire anyway for the sake of my love, and OOF. I don’t hate it as much as other people but they really did just…beat him down and then keep beating him…it was unfortunate and I kept thinking about how glad I was that I decided to self insert because I can save him from that fate lol…but what if I didn’t?? What if I wanted to comfort him through some series of special circumstances…so I did! But it didn't turn out nearly as kind as I would have liked lol. If the warnings haven't scared you away yet, though, thank you for reading! At least the fic has a happy ending lol.
_____

“Look out!” She lunged forward on impulse, focused solely on protecting him. A strange sensation came over her, almost viscous, bringing a wave of unsettling nausea with it. Vision blurring, head spinning…what was happening to her? Well, she supposed it didn’t matter, as long as she’d managed to shield him from the blow. But what kind of attack was it? What had this Contractor managed to do to her? Her mind was slipping, thoughts ebbing away until she sunk into a void of darkness, steadily drifting away from her senses.

Word Count: 1,660

Summary: Being chased down by a violent assailant is never fun, and getting preoccupied in the midst of the chase is even worse…but it’s not like she could really help it.

Author’s Note: I want to laugh about this fic but also I really like it. This is an exchange/scenario I thought up after seeing some pics (like this) of Hei’s assassin attire…that man is fuckin toned and I love it okay. And apparently I’m not the only one since they utilized something along those lines as a plot point in one of the official OVAs. And so does Nova, by default, so here’s a little bit of her being a total dumbass about it lol. Thank you for reading!
_____

If things kept up this way, Nova was sure she’d be more familiar with the twists and turns of the Tokyo backstreets than she ever wanted to be. Pressing on despite the fatigue, desperately hoping her second wind would kick in any second now, she sprinted after her companion with all her might. Unbeknownst to her, he was actually going easy on her; he didn’t really have a choice. It was his fault she was mixed up in all this…well, that wasn’t entirely true, but he couldn’t help feeling at least partially responsible. That was just part of the burden of guilt he chose to bear, a self-inflicted punishment he felt he deserved.

Cat Fight

nyandereneko: (Default)
Word Count: 980

Summary: Dealing with petty squabbles comes with the territory of wrangling an eclectic group of misfits, and apparently so does being fed up with always having to be the voice of reason for your troubled teammates.

Author’s Note: This summary fhesilfhes I’m so sorry. I didn’t really know how to make “Nova and Mao squabble but it’s just an excuse for me to have Hei scruff them” into a legitimate summary…I guess that basic sentence would be as good as any, but I like to make my summaries vague and at least somewhat artful. Anywho, short, sweet, and to the point. This is a hc I came up with pretty early on and I just wanted to write something for it! Thank you for reading!
_____

It was, quite literally, a cat fight. As in, a heated exchange between two disgruntled felines who shouldn’t have been able to do much more than hiss. They did plenty of that, to be sure, but what stood out even more than the agitated ridges on their backs were the human insults they were lobbing at each other in lieu of unsheathing their claws.

Summary: From one black cat to another, Nova’s been struggling with her conflicted feelings regarding a complicated relationship she helped cultivate. Despite her better judgment, she’s adopted a routine of airing her concerns to a friendly neighborhood cat that just happens to show up every now and again.

Author’s Note: WOW this fic turned into A Lot, I really wasn’t intending for it to get this long, or even necessarily for it to take the turn it did, but…well, this selfship has been keeping me pretty busy lately. Since I don’t have an official bio typed up yet, I’ll just refer people to this post in case they’re confused where this sudden series is coming from. Also, there’s a little bit of lost context in here, mostly because I didn’t want to try fitting it in. In case it isn’t obvious through other hints, though, in this verse Nova has a complicated home life and actively tries to avoid it. This is something her friend notices and also clearly something she shows in her mannerisms and reactions, whether she’s aware of it or not. I don’t really have much more to say other than thanks for reading, and expect more material for this selfship, because it’s the absolute center of my universe right now lol.
_____

It was a mild evening, the kind she didn’t mind taking a walk in. To be completely honest, recently she’d been looking for almost any excuse to stay out of the house. Thoughts coalesced in her head like a thick fog, obscuring her understanding, overwhelming her faculties. She strode along with a simple look on her face; any common passerby wouldn’t have thought twice about it. Or perhaps they would have found the blank, empty stare unsettling. It certainly felt unsettling, the chill that set in with the fog as it seeped into her brain and bones. Normally she didn’t mind the cold, but right now…frostbite was the last thing she wanted to add to the various maladies assaulting her injured heart.

Word Count: 2,248

Summary: Nova and Dazai get caught up in a debate about honesty, but when it comes to actually letting their guards down it seems that their situation might be more complicated than it’s worth.

Author’s Note: Wow this fic is a doozy, I’m just gonna say that right now lol. Inspired by prompts from this post! I actually forgot that I wrote this until I went back through my drafts, and when I edited it I fell in love with it all over again. This is another piece I’m genuinely proud of, I guess Dazai pulls more eloquence out of me than I originally thought. Or my feelings for him do at least, lol. But that’s certainly not a bad thing, and if you took the time to stop and read this, I really appreciate it!
_____

He was perpetually elusive, hard for her to catch, and even harder for her to understand. Like sand slipping through trembling fingers, she wanted to find something in him she could hold onto, but she knew how dangerous that desire was. Both literally and figuratively, in this case. A shaky alliance, an inadvisable partnership…but she was drawn to him. There was no denying that. And, whether she was aware of it or not, he was equally drawn to her.

Summary: Tsuchigomori catches Nova by surprise while she’s browsing the shelves one afternoon, and the exchange that follows is one of the last things either of them are really prepared for.

Author’s Note: I meant to get back on a role of posting things regularly from the beginning of this month since I did so well pushing myself last month, but then…well, I don’t need to get into the stuff everyone already knows about. It’s been rough, but I finally pushed myself to edit some things, one of which happened to be this fic that almost gave me a heart attack upon revisiting it. I’ve definitely been feeling Some Type Of Way about most of my f/os as of late, and I’m sure this fic illustrates that to some degree, but I’ll be honest I just think it turned out awesome and I’m very happy with it lol. Thank you for reading!
_____

This place was mystical and mysterious to her, but what else could she expect? She waded through the shallow water splashing around her ankles, an indication that she no longer inhabited the mortal plane. It didn’t feel quite like the water she was used to, but that was just another thing to be expected, of course. Because it wasn’t really water, and this place wasn’t really just another dusty looking library tucked away in some quiet, ordinary school. While the webs that clung to the ceiling and shelves might not have appeared too out of place, the floating lights and crystals dancing through the air certainly did.

Summary: Everyone needs some downtime every now and again, and what better way is there to relax than by taking a break with the one you love?

Author’s Note: Once again I feel like this fic doesn’t necessarily have enough action in it, but it’s got too much dialogue to be a more reflective piece…hopefully I’ll get my balance reconfigured eventually orz either way, I’ve actually had the idea for this fic for awhile, ever since I got an espresso machine in game. I got it pretty early on in my playthrough, and ofc my first thought was “omg I could make Raymond coffee with this :D it’d be so cute!” and thus this piece was born lol. I also threw in some encouragement for myself bcuz I finally unlocked terraforming a few days ago but it’s been…quite an ordeal, and I’m having that whole “island envy” situation where I just feel like everything I do isn’t good enough. This piece is simple but I like it anyway, and I hope you enjoy!
_____

The sound of the espresso machine clicking off snapped Nova out of her reverie. She was leaning against the counter with her arms crossed, facing the contraption as it worked its alleged magic before her. She’d let her mind wander, thoughts idly straying this way and that as she waited for it to finish preparing the steaming beverage. She usually didn’t have a lot to think about, but with all the recent island renovations and upgrades, she’d had her hands full planning and placing and rearranging things. The smell of it wafted through the air, filling the kitchen with its heavenly, mouth watering aroma; but she knew that the taste didn’t quite fit its misleading and magnificent scent. If it could soak into the walls, she would have been grateful…she supposed getting a candle was probably the next best thing.

Word Count: 1,435

Summary: Enjoying the stunning view of the sunset with someone you love is one of life’s simple pleasures, and Nova and Raymond have learned how to take advantage of that particular pastime on their quiet, tranquil tropical locale.

Author’s Note: This is my first Animal Cr0ssing fic and I’m honestly a little anxious to post it, but I worked hard on it so I’m going through with it anyway lol. I actually came up with the idea for this one (which isn’t much of an idea to begin with orz) because I’ve been getting depressed seeing some negative stuff on twitter...so I kind of put this piece together to make myself feel a little better. I know Raymond is super popular and kind of controversial but I just like him as a character…he’s cute and sweet and charming and funny and anyway this is how I’d spend my evenings with him if I could T^T I hope you enjoy!
_____

Sunlight danced on the caps of the rolling waves as they broke against the soft, warm sand, making the water’s surface shimmer and sparkle like starlight. It wouldn’t be long before the fiery expanse above was replaced in a similar way, plunged into darkness with only scarce pinpricks of illumination to pierce the shadows of the night. The moon would bathe the island in its pale, gentle glow from shore to shore, and if the inhabitants were lucky enough, perhaps a few stars would even happen to fall before their eyes. Nova wiggled her toes in the sand, watching as the granules shifted and settled around her, adapting to her movement. Although she preferred the mild, cooler weather of the fall and winter months, she’d been learning how to appreciate this tropical climate from a new perspective ever since she’d taken up residence on this once deserted island paradise.

Summary: A power outage strikes S4 HQ in the dead of night, plunging the distinguished building into darkness. Nova and Fushimi are left stranded in the shadows, ultimately deciding their best bet to combat this mess (really their only option) is to pinpoint the cause.

Author’s Note: A new K Proj fic after all this time?? Well, I can’t technically count this as entirely new, considering this has been in my drafts since last year. I kept putting off posting it because I get self conscious writing for/adding in other chara interactions, and I just worried that this premise was too embarrassing…but it’s actually really good and I want to post it so I’m going to lol. The mention of it being winter tells you just how long I’ve had this in the works. Just a cute little fic inspired by something that happened in one of the light novels (the previous event Saruhiko mentions at some point in the fic) with some additional character interaction thrown in…hopefully it really isn’t too awkward ^^’ thanks for reading!

Summary: While accompanying her creator on a routine visit to the Agency, Nova encounters some of the members she hasn’t had a chance to meet yet firsthand. One of them has an uncomfortable aura she can’t quite grasp, but the pieces fall into place when it’s revealed that he just so happens to have the horrifying power to erase her existence with a simple touch.

Author’s Note: Idk why but I’ve been on a roll with first meeting/first encounter fics lately…maybe because it’s just easier for me to envision those types of scenarios, or perhaps that’s just the kind of mood I’m in. But I’ll run out of characters that I can write that kind of thing for eventually, so I’m sure it’ll be out of my system soon enough lmao. As with my Shirou piece, I’m not 100% sure that this is what I want Dazai and Nova’s first encounter to look like, but I liked the way this piece came out, so I’m posting it anyway lol. Thanks for reading!
_____

Another routine visit to this dull, dreary office building. If she could, Nova would have preferred to waste her time in the cafe on the ground floor, but those weren’t the orders she’d been given. The lights on the ceiling flickered and buzzed, their illumination compounded by any sunlight that happened to pour in through the window at the end of the hall. There was the door with the glass pane and the plaque that decorated it, indicating the nature of what awaited you should you happen to go inside. Nova had visited this place on several occasions now, and each one only seemed to grow more boring than the last. Left to stand guard in the hall by the Agency’s entrance, she’d mainly been pushed to the side like this so she didn’t get in the way. That was fine; she was used to that kind of treatment. She wasn’t really a person, after all. So why should she be treated like one?

Author’s Note: Another first meeting fic…well I guess my JSHK one wasn’t really a first meeting so much as a gen introduction, but that’s also kind of what this fic is? It shows how Nova/Shirou first met and also lays some groundwork for Nova’s role/situation in BNA verse. So anyway. They may get off on the wrong foot, but they become inseparable eventually, and tbh I love writing tense banter like this (esp when one of the two is already kind of fond of the other so they put up w/ it bcuz they think it’s cute and they want to get to know them…sorry I made you so soft Shirou hfiselfjes)

“Hey, Lulu? That guy’s here again.”

Summary: A new rumor has started circulating at Kamome Academy, one about a mysterious cat that allegedly grants people good luck. Few know of the cryptic feline’s true nature, of course; what’s the point of trying to unravel a rumor anyway?

Author’s Note: Hello to anyone reading this!! I am trying to make a tentative return from my months-long hiatus, working on some new fics that have to do with some of my new F/Os! This happens to be one of them, since I got into JSHK pretty recently (specifically for this chara that I happened to regrettably catch a glimpse of one day--the story of my life) and have naturally fallen down the rabbit hole as usual of thinking about all sorts of new ship things and wanting to write new scenarios…so hopefully I’ll have the time and energy to keep it up! I’m not sure how frequently I’ll be able to do so, but I have quite a few ideas for F/Os both old and new that I’d like to get serious about finishing, so…here’s hoping summer will be more beneficial for my productivity, lol.
_____

Have you heard the rumor--the one about the elusive black cat that roams the library bookstacks? Its eyes are like black holes, and shooting stars streak through its fur. They say it’s like an extension of the shadows, an aimless spirit cursed to wander the stacks for all eternity. It’s not a very dangerous apparition, or even that threatening. No, I’ve heard that if you see it, even just a glimpse out of the corner of your eye, good fortune and prosperity are sure to follow! Almost like making a wish. It’s a bit of a strange story, a little out of place compared to the reputation of the other Seven Wonders. But this spirit isn’t a Wonder in and of itself, so maybe the same standards don’t apply? Only time will tell…

Summary: Heading back from a routine visit to the Metaverse, the Phantom Thieves stumble across a threatening scene involving a Shadow chasing down a stranger that shouldn’t even have access to this world. Their leader takes initiative to save the poor lost and terrified individual, regardless of the risk.

Author’s Note: Since I already posted my Saruhiko piece and said most of what I wanted to there, I’ll just say this is the Ren half of my celebratory anniversary pieces! I can’t tell which one I think turned out better, and I kind of wish I could have done more with them both, but for now I’ll just say I think I’m satisfied with how they are now. There will always be time to write more in the future, after all (at least I hope), and thank you for reading!
__________

Their visit to the Metaverse was a routine one, or at least things had gone smoothly for them thus far. The hours had passed from afternoon to evening, and they were all starting to feel the fatigue of their prolonged exertion. Confronting Shadows and dismantling Palaces, their job as the Phantom Thieves of Heart never seemed to end. But that suited them just fine, the elusive and mysterious group of wayward souls that’d all crossed paths with each other as if by fate. They’d been dutifully fulfilling their unique and unfortunately necessary role for years now, one that waxed and waned but never completely faded away. Each time it seemed that their usefulness was tapering off for good, another incident would crop up, and they would rise to the challenge like they always did.
