Summary: Nova and Dazai have a heart to heart about some of the less appealing parts of his past.

Author’s Note: This is a short and sweet fic to round off the week. CW for discussion of self harm, scars, etc. Not too graphic, but if that stuff makes you uncomfortable I’d steer clear of this piece. It’s not as expansive as I would have liked, and I may either revamp or revisit the topic with a similar/more lengthy piece, but the format falls in line with what I had planned to whip up for this week, so I’m just posting this one as is. Just an excuse to write some cute fluff as well as share one of my headcanons about Dazai’s ability (that it has a knock back effect that has a physical impact on him every time he uses it) because it’s one of my favorites and I just think it’s neat lol. Thank you for reading!
_____

Beams of silver light streamed through the window, bathing the room in their pale, frosty glow. They pooled on the bed and cascaded across the floor, creating an almost ephemeral scene that felt even more surreal to the individuals that were caught up in it. Despite the chill that one might be tempted to associate with such a display, the atmosphere in the room was undeniably warm, inviting. That was the atmosphere they’d created for themselves, though, the feeling they’d kindled between them to suit the needs of their intimate exchange. It was strange for them to be together like this…or at least, it was something they were still getting used to. But adjusting to this new normal wasn’t unpleasant, or even that difficult…it just took time.

Honesty

Summary: Nova and Dazai get caught up in a debate about honesty, but when it comes to actually letting their guards down it seems that their situation might be more complicated than it’s worth.

Author’s Note: Wow this fic is a doozy, I’m just gonna say that right now lol. Inspired by prompts from this post! I actually forgot that I wrote this until I went back through my drafts, and when I edited it I fell in love with it all over again. This is another piece I’m genuinely proud of, I guess Dazai pulls more eloquence out of me than I originally thought. Or my feelings for him do at least, lol. But that’s certainly not a bad thing, and if you took the time to stop and read this, I really appreciate it!
_____

He was perpetually elusive, hard for her to catch, and even harder for her to understand. Like sand slipping through trembling fingers, she wanted to find something in him she could hold onto, but she knew how dangerous that desire was. Both literally and figuratively, in this case. A shaky alliance, an inadvisable partnership…but she was drawn to him. There was no denying that. And, whether she was aware of it or not, he was equally drawn to her.

Summary: While accompanying her creator on a routine visit to the Agency, Nova encounters some of the members she hasn’t had a chance to meet yet firsthand. One of them has an uncomfortable aura she can’t quite grasp, but the pieces fall into place when it’s revealed that he just so happens to have the horrifying power to erase her existence with a simple touch.

Author’s Note: Idk why but I’ve been on a roll with first meeting/first encounter fics lately…maybe because it’s just easier for me to envision those types of scenarios, or perhaps that’s just the kind of mood I’m in. But I’ll run out of characters that I can write that kind of thing for eventually, so I’m sure it’ll be out of my system soon enough lmao. As with my Shirou piece, I’m not 100% sure that this is what I want Dazai and Nova’s first encounter to look like, but I liked the way this piece came out, so I’m posting it anyway lol. Thanks for reading!
_____

Another routine visit to this dull, dreary office building. If she could, Nova would have preferred to waste her time in the cafe on the ground floor, but those weren’t the orders she’d been given. The lights on the ceiling flickered and buzzed, their illumination compounded by any sunlight that happened to pour in through the window at the end of the hall. There was the door with the glass pane and the plaque that decorated it, indicating the nature of what awaited you should you happen to go inside. Nova had visited this place on several occasions now, and each one only seemed to grow more boring than the last. Left to stand guard in the hall by the Agency’s entrance, she’d mainly been pushed to the side like this so she didn’t get in the way. That was fine; she was used to that kind of treatment. She wasn’t really a person, after all. So why should she be treated like one?

Summary: She’s always wanted to see the ocean, and he happens to know one of the best places to do that. But, ultimately, the only thing that really matters to either of them is getting to spend more time together.

Author’s Note: A friend helped me decide which f/o to use for this prompt, which was good because I’ve really struggled with settling on who I’ll use for which prompt for this month T^T I want to focus on my top 3 because I just want to make content for them, but since Saruhiko already has so much lol…that kind of narrows it down, but I’m ranting and this has nothing to do with the fic. This is actually a scenario I’ve been meaning to write for a while so I just tailored it for this specific prompt, and I think it turned out pretty okay! Well, at the end it kind of spiraled out of control, but I didn’t feel there was anything more I could do with it. Completed with some inspiration from this particular post that just punched me in the gut the first time I read it lol.
__________

The Yokohama sunset was unlike any spectacle Nova had ever had the pleasure of appraising with her own eyes. A mesmerizing array of colors, swirling shades of honey gold and dark amber, bright rosy pink and delicate lilac. The salty tang of the sea filled her nostrils, leaving an aftertaste of the ocean dripping down her throat. Her sharp ears swiveled from side to side, always on alert, always picking up on the various sounds that drifted by from the city or off the water as she strolled along. Like the rhythmic breaking of the waves against the bank, wearing down the rocky barriers with every swell, and the dissonant din of the metropolis that she’d come to recognize as little more than background noise in her daily life.

“What do you think?”

Summary: After being confronted with a simple request, Nova finds herself keen on not falling for whatever ulterior motives said requester may have in mind.

Author’s Note: This is a prompt I’ve had in my drafts for months, I wrote it so long ago…it was based on a couple dialogue prompts from a prompt list I also lost a long time ago, but I just know they were really good ones. And that’s why this fic is good, and also playful and flirty, I think I was working on it when I was feeling especially sappy about Dazai…and his stupid handsome face lol. I think it still holds up and I’m happy to have finally gotten around to editing it so I can share it!
_____

“Can you help me with my tie?”

Nova couldn’t really believe what he was asking her. The simple bauble he wore around his collar could hardly be classified as such an accessory, and he’d never expressed that he had any kind of trouble adjusting it before. Honestly, it looked like it would be simpler for him to just figure out how to fix it himself; a quick adjustment in the mirror would be all it took. If there was even anything wrong with it in the first place—which wasn’t overtly apparent to her. All signs were pointing to something more sinister lurking in his intentions, and she was experienced enough to know that was just par for the course for him.

Summary: The longer Nova contemplates it, the more she realizes the one thing she desires most is also the one thing she can never have.

Author’s Note: A prompt I’ve been thinking about based on this post, first fic in a while but I’m trying to get back into the groove of things for the New Year. Expect lots more self insert fics but also x readers, because I’m trying to branch out in my writing a little.
_____

The office was unnaturally quiet--a rare feat compared to the bustling and busy nature it typically exuded. Despite the strong afternoon sun not much light filtered in through the windows, blocked out by the drawn blinds. The seemingly calm, ordinary setting was actually anything but, considering the types of people and events that tended to fill these desks and pace these halls. The sole young woman currently occupying the space was further proof of that claim. Stashed away in an unassuming cubby she’d made for herself beneath one of the desks, trying to make herself as small and unobtrusive as possible. The empty office was unconcerned with her presence, of course, and she’d retreated here for a reason that was entirely unknown, entirely petty…entirely personal.
