Summary: Awoken from her slumber by the sound of frantic scratching at her window in the middle of the night, Nova is drawn into a conflict that she knows she’s better off avoiding…but when it comes to him, she just can’t seem to stay away.

Author’s Note: The last of my loosely associated 3 part drabble set for this week, and I can’t believe how long it ended up being fhieslfes I really am just on a roll when it comes to this stuff. I’m not sure if my posting will start to slow down a little soon because I’m starting to get a little busy with other things, but I still plan on posting more fics for this ship (and others) it’s just that this one, obviously, inspires me in a way I haven’t encountered in awhile, which is pretty nice…I guess I don’t have too much more to say than that lol. Thank you for reading! :D
_____

“Nova! Nova, wake up!”

That voice…it was vaguely familiar to her, although not instantly recognizable. It didn’t sound like the product of just another dream; it was too clear, too defined. The grating noise of something sharp frantically scraping against glass jarred her even more, and the young woman’s ears twitched as she struggled to open her eyes, glancing around without making any effort to move just yet. The scraping intensified, the voice continued beckoning to her in that same distressed tone, begging her to do something she couldn’t quite make out. Rubbing her eyes and pushing the covers back, she sat up slowly, posture going rigid as her eyes finally fell upon the form that was awaiting her at the window.

“C’mon, don’t just sit there and stare! Let me in!”

Summary: Coming to terms with a secret she would have been better off not knowing, Nova faces the consequences of her nosiness at the hands of the last person that wanted her to find out.

Author’s Note: I don’t know what it is about this fic, but I just really like the way it came out. I went back and forth a lot about whether or not I was going to rework it, despite complaining about the fact that I didn’t want to do that, because I felt like I messed up the flow and characterization and how I originally wanted this whole thing to play out…but playing around with it, I think I was able to get closer to the exchange I wanted without having to start from scratch. If I really wanted to, I suppose I could write an alternate scenario to go with this, but for now I’m just gonna present it as is. Thank you for reading!
_____

“Li, just let me go, let me--”

“Be quiet.”

Ah, he was angry. Well, that was understandable, she supposed, considering the veritable nightmare that’d just transpired between them. The less than fortuitous turn of events that had ended in Nova uncovering the sordid, closely guarded details of his little--or rather, actually quite big--stash of secrets. She didn’t know where he was hauling her, dragging her by the arm like a leashed animal. There was no escaping or breaking his iron grip that was more fittingly like a shackle around her wrist. But the destination wasn’t that important, was it? Not as important as the mind boggling, life altering revelation that the previously innocent looking and charming man she’d had a hand in setting her best friend up with was actually an infamous, notorious, lethal Contractor.

Summary: Chased down by an unknown assailant with no obvious means of escape, Nova starts to think this might actually be the end for her…that is, until a mysteriously benevolent third party decides to intervene.

Author’s Note: This is the first fic in a technically 3 part series that I plan on posting for this week! I don’t have too much to say about it other than I just love writing for this series/self insert and I don’t really plan on stopping any time soon lmao. Thank you for reading!
_____

She’d managed to stay out of trouble for this long, but apparently her luck had finally run out. Taking every turn she saw, dashing down alleys and backstreets like her life depended on it, no doubt running herself in circles in this maze of a city. It was only a matter of time before she hit a dead end, or found herself right back where she’d started. It wasn’t like her navigation skills were all that terrible, but when you’re preoccupied with running for your life, you tend to get turned around whether you planned to or not.

Summary: An impulsive action ends up leaving Nova stranded in some strange place she’s never seen before. What she experiences there is more harrowing than anything she could have anticipated.

Author’s Note: Big cw for abuse!! Physical abuse, mentions of alcoholism, cursing. Not good things!!! There are unsettling and upsetting things that happen in this fic so read at your own risk!!!

I finished s2 of DTB not too long ago, I couldn’t help binging it, especially considering how controversial it apparently was. Not legitimately (well, I guess that’s up for debate) but from what I saw pretty much everyone agreed that it was garbage and they wished it didn’t exist. But, ofc, I was compelled to sit through the dumpster fire anyway for the sake of my love, and OOF. I don’t hate it as much as other people but they really did just…beat him down and then keep beating him…it was unfortunate and I kept thinking about how glad I was that I decided to self insert because I can save him from that fate lol…but what if I didn’t?? What if I wanted to comfort him through some series of special circumstances…so I did! But it didn't turn out nearly as kind as I would have liked lol. If the warnings haven't scared you away yet, though, thank you for reading! At least the fic has a happy ending lol.
_____

“Look out!” She lunged forward on impulse, focused solely on protecting him. A strange sensation came over her, almost viscous, bringing a wave of unsettling nausea with it. Vision blurring, head spinning…what was happening to her? Well, she supposed it didn’t matter, as long as she’d managed to shield him from the blow. But what kind of attack was it? What had this Contractor managed to do to her? Her mind was slipping, thoughts ebbing away until she sunk into a void of darkness, steadily drifting away from her senses.

Word Count: 1,660

Summary: Being chased down by a violent assailant is never fun, and getting preoccupied in the midst of the chase is even worse…but it’s not like she could really help it.

Author’s Note: I want to laugh about this fic but also I really like it. This is an exchange/scenario I thought up after seeing some pics (like this) of Hei’s assassin attire…that man is fuckin toned and I love it okay. And apparently I’m not the only one since they utilized something along those lines as a plot point in one of the official OVAs. And so does Nova, by default, so here’s a little bit of her being a total dumbass about it lol. Thank you for reading!
_____

If things kept up this way, Nova was sure she’d be more familiar with the twists and turns of the Tokyo backstreets than she ever wanted to be. Pressing on despite the fatigue, desperately hoping her second wind would kick in any second now, she sprinted after her companion with all her might. Unbeknownst to her, he was actually going easy on her; he didn’t really have a choice. It was his fault she was mixed up in all this…well, that wasn’t entirely true, but he couldn’t help feeling at least partially responsible. That was just part of the burden of guilt he chose to bear, a self-inflicted punishment he felt he deserved.

Cat Fight

Word Count: 980

Summary: Dealing with petty squabbles comes with the territory of wrangling an eclectic group of misfits, and apparently so does being fed up with always having to be the voice of reason for your troubled teammates.

Author’s Note: This summary fhesilfhes I’m so sorry. I didn’t really know how to make “Nova and Mao squabble but it’s just an excuse for me to have Hei scruff them” into a legitimate summary…I guess that basic sentence would be as good as any, but I like to make my summaries vague and at least somewhat artful. Anywho, short, sweet, and to the point. This is a hc I came up with pretty early on and I just wanted to write something for it! Thank you for reading!
_____

It was, quite literally, a cat fight. As in, a heated exchange between two disgruntled felines who shouldn’t have been able to do much more than hiss. They did plenty of that, to be sure, but what stood out even more than the agitated ridges on their backs were the human insults they were lobbing at each other in lieu of unsheathing their claws.

Summary: From one black cat to another, Nova’s been struggling with her conflicted feelings regarding a complicated relationship she helped cultivate. Despite her better judgment, she’s adopted a routine of airing her concerns to a friendly neighborhood cat that just happens to show up every now and again.

Author’s Note: WOW this fic turned into A Lot, I really wasn’t intending for it to get this long, or even necessarily for it to take the turn it did, but…well, this selfship has been keeping me pretty busy lately. Since I don’t have an official bio typed up yet, I’ll just refer people to this post in case they’re confused where this sudden series is coming from. Also, there’s a little bit of lost context in here, mostly because I didn’t want to try fitting it in. In case it isn’t obvious through other hints, though, in this verse Nova has a complicated home life and actively tries to avoid it. This is something her friend notices and also clearly something she shows in her mannerisms and reactions, whether she’s aware of it or not. I don’t really have much more to say other than thanks for reading, and expect more material for this selfship, because it’s the absolute center of my universe right now lol.
_____

It was a mild evening, the kind she didn’t mind taking a walk in. To be completely honest, recently she’d been looking for almost any excuse to stay out of the house. Thoughts coalesced in her head like a thick fog, obscuring her understanding, overwhelming her faculties. She strode along with a simple look on her face; any common passerby wouldn’t have thought twice about it. Or perhaps they would have found the blank, empty stare unsettling. It certainly felt unsettling, the chill that set in with the fog as it seeped into her brain and bones. Normally she didn’t mind the cold, but right now…frostbite was the last thing she wanted to add to the various maladies assaulting her injured heart.
