Summary: Caught in the midst of a battle he really wants nothing to do with, Fushimi finds himself faced with the decision to cling to his selfishness or extend a helping hand to an unusual and defenseless stranger in need.

Author’s Note: Happy 2 year anniversary to me!! :D In case it wasn’t obvious, today is the 2 year anniversary of me selfshipping consistently with both Saruhiko and Ren! It’s been…quite a whirlwind, and I’ve been especially struggling with a lot of things as of late, but I decided it couldn’t hurt to at least try to get back into the swing of things. And what better way is there to start than by working on anniversary pieces! This is a little different than my usual fair because it’s from Saruhiko’s POV, and details the real first time Saruhiko and Nova encountered each other, way back before either of them were in the familiar setting I much prefer now lol. Despite being rusty I think this actually turned out alright, although I feel I could have done more, but I didn’t want these to be late. Oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ thank you for reading!
__________

This is where all the trouble started, and hopefully where it was all going to end. The air crackled with chaos and adrenaline and panic, powers erupting and escalating the frenzy as flailing forms struggled and clashed haphazardly. The calm before the storm had long since past, the paltry defense established by the officers that’d been waiting for them weakening by the second under the fury of their fiery siege. These people were nothing more than lackeys, poor aimless Clansmen that had no King to fight for and no real cause to uphold.

Summary: She’s always wanted to see the ocean, and he happens to know one of the best places to do that. But, ultimately, the only thing that really matters to either of them is getting to spend more time together.

Author’s Note: A friend helped me decide which f/o to use for this prompt, which was good because I’ve really struggled with settling on who I’ll use for which prompt for this month T^T I want to focus on my top 3 because I just want to make content for them, but since Saruhiko already has so much lol…that kind of narrows it down, but I’m ranting and this has nothing to do with the fic. This is actually a scenario I’ve been meaning to write for a while so I just tailored it for this specific prompt, and I think it turned out pretty okay! Well, at the end it kind of spiraled out of control, but I didn’t feel there was anything more I could do with it. Completed with some inspiration from this particular post that just punched me in the gut the first time I read it lol.
__________

The Yokohama sunset was unlike any spectacle Nova had ever had the pleasure of appraising with her own eyes. A mesmerizing array of colors, swirling shades of honey gold and dark amber, bright rosy pink and delicate lilac. The salty tang of the sea filled her nostrils, leaving an aftertaste of the ocean dripping down her throat. Her sharp ears swiveled from side to side, always on alert, always picking up on the various sounds that drifted by from the city or off the water as she strolled along. Like the rhythmic breaking of the waves against the bank, wearing down the rocky barriers with every swell, and the dissonant din of the metropolis that she’d come to recognize as little more than background noise in her daily life.

Summary: Beach days aren’t really their thing, but when they’re together, everything becomes at least a little bit more enjoyable.

Author’s Note: My first personal entry for F/O February, and it’s not even that exciting lol. I’ve been writing some things for my friends for the other days, and I plan on continuing to do that for any of the prompts I feel fit their selfships better than my own. It’s funny, because I really suck at coming up with scenarios for beach related prompts, considering the beach isn’t really my favorite place to vacation, but as demonstrated in this fic, I can usually find something to like about it if I have my f/o(s) there to make things a little more bearable u.u

Summary: On the hunt for her missing partner one evening, Nova stumbles upon Saruhiko asleep in one of the most unassuming places she could think of.

Author’s Note: Just a short self indulgent fic that’s been on my list for a while. I can’t help envisioning what it would be like to lay under the kotatsu with my f/os during the fall and winter months, it just seems so convenient and cozy and the perfect setting for snuggles ;w; I really wish I could enjoy that kind of thing with them irl, but alas. I suppose being able to write about it is one of the next best things! Also I couldn’t resist the idea after remembering what happened in canon when Akiyama and Benzai rescued a junk kotatsu from the side of the road heilsfjelsjfes
__________

It was one of the most endearing sights she’d ever laid eyes on. So peaceful, so serene. As still and quiet as a painting. Peering through the gap in the door, she couldn’t decide if it would be a better idea to leave him alone or join him. She’d observed him in similar positions plenty of times before. Usually when they were curled up together, drifting in and out of consciousness in an attempt to recuperate some of the energy that their routine duties constantly drained from them. In the process of tracking him down this evening, having no inkling of where he could have disappeared to and failing to get in contact with him, this certainly wasn’t one of the places she’d planned on investigating.

Word Count: 1,083

Summary: Nova and Saruhiko find themselves attending to their duties in the cold one afternoon, and there’s more than one way to try and stay warm.

Author’s Note: This is a little something I whipped up as part of celebrating the anniversary of my self insert blog! It doesn’t really have anything to do with that, thematically or otherwise, I just wanted to write something nice and this prompt has been on my list. So I figured why not knock it out, and I think it turned out really cute ;w; I’m happy with it, and that’s all that really matters; thank you for reading!
__________

“Ugh, it’s freezing,” Nova lamented as she crossed her arms. She pinned her ears flat against her head and wound her tail around her legs in a paltry attempt to stave off the chill.

“Hey, I don’t want to hear you complaining. I thought you liked this type of weather?” Saruhiko rebutted, seeming less than affected by the nip in the air despite the matching uniforms they sported.

Summary: Nova doesn’t plan on leaving the annual holiday celebration without exchanging this particularly festive traditional with the one she loves.

Author’s Note: Such an original title, I know, orz but I was too lazy to think of anything more creative. This is just a short holiday piece I wrote for myself because I really wanted to write some selfship stuff and I figured this was as good an opportunity as any. Just short and sappy because that’s my self insert MO. I also realize there seems to be some implied funny business at the end but that wasn’t my intention, I swear!! Take it as you will I suppose lol, and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays again to everyone and their wonderful F/Os! Also the suit from this official art is what I imagined him wearing because I love it lol, I know I already featured it in another piece but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I just love it that much!
__________

This year’s holiday festivities had gone off without a hitch, which was a noteworthy accomplishment in and of itself. Considering the track record of strange occurrences that tended to pop up at this time of year, or really any time for that matter, the peaceful uneventfulness of it all was a welcome relief, a pleasant surprise. Tackling supernatural mishaps day in and day out wore on the operatives more than they realized, more than they were accustomed to noticing in the first place. That was the nature of their profession, and none of them wanted to take this temporary reprieve from said chaos for granted.

Summary: After being confronted with a simple request, Nova finds herself keen on not falling for whatever ulterior motives said requester may have in mind.

Author’s Note: This is a prompt I’ve had in my drafts for months, I wrote it so long ago…it was based on a couple dialogue prompts from a prompt list I also lost a long time ago, but I just know they were really good ones. And that’s why this fic is good, and also playful and flirty, I think I was working on it when I was feeling especially sappy about Dazai…and his stupid handsome face lol. I think it still holds up and I’m happy to have finally gotten around to editing it so I can share it!
_____

“Can you help me with my tie?”

Nova couldn’t really believe what he was asking her. The simple bauble he wore around his collar could hardly be classified as such an accessory, and he’d never expressed that he had any kind of trouble adjusting it before. Honestly, it looked like it would be simpler for him to just figure out how to fix it himself; a quick adjustment in the mirror would be all it took. If there was even anything wrong with it in the first place—which wasn’t overtly apparent to her. All signs were pointing to something more sinister lurking in his intentions, and she was experienced enough to know that was just par for the course for him.

Author’s Note: A prompt I’ve been thinking about based on this post, first fic in a while but I’m trying to get back into the groove of things for the New Year. Expect lots more self insert fics but also x readers, because I’m trying to branch out in my writing a little.
_____

The office was unnaturally quiet--a rare feat compared to the bustling and busy nature it typically exuded. Despite the strong afternoon sun not much light filtered in through the windows, blocked out by the drawn blinds. The seemingly calm, ordinary setting was actually anything but, considering the types of people and events that tended to fill these desks and pace these halls. The sole young woman currently occupying the space was further proof of that claim. Stashed away in an unassuming cubby she’d made for herself beneath one of the desks, trying to make herself as small and unobtrusive as possible. The empty office was unconcerned with her presence, of course, and she’d retreated here for a reason that was entirely unknown, entirely petty…entirely personal.

Summary: He’s as devious and dangerous as the shadows, but also just as intriguing. Despite her better judgment, she knows that one day that temptation is sure to prove her downfall.

*Author’s Note*: This piece is kind of vague (I feel like that’s been happening a lot lately >.>) and I’m sorry about that. I started writing it like three different times and just couldn’t decide what direction I wanted to take it in…before finally settling on this direct but not so detailed approach. Taken from this prompt list (and I even used an extra one…you can try to figure out which one it is if you want lol.) It’s obvious from the message (that I got on my blog where this prompt is from) that I have my friend to thank for this and she knew what she was doing when she suggested it. Normally I’d be too self conscious to post something like this but it’s my last fic for the month, I’ve really been feeling this new f/o, and in the spirit of Halloween I figured I might as well go all out. I also don’t know where they’re supposed to be exactly but there’s a fireplace and that’s all that mattered to me lol.

Word Count: 1,909

Summary: Nova spends a boring afternoon waiting for a certain someone to return…as monotonous as it is, she doesn’t mind waiting if she’s doing it for him.

*Author’s Note*: HAPPY. H@ZBIN. RELEASE DAY!!!!!! I have been so stoked for this day for like 3 weeks (nothing compared to ppl who have been waiting literal years but I digress) the floodgates of all that building excitement have finally, luckily, been opened. There are a lot of diff ways I could have introduced this ship and I kind of want to get around to writing the other ones, but since there’s technically 2 important “main introductions” (Alastor and Nova’s proper first meeting in Hell and their introduction to the hotel) I decided to…write a slightly more manageable, kind of reflective piece that’s supposed to summarize those events and also gush about emotions because damn do I love this dapper demon way too much. Also for the record I don’t know these characters very well at all, I was hoping that would change today but since this fic was posted just today…I’ll just make whatever adjustments I need to in future fics!
_____

Sometimes, things could be slow around here. Those moments were a welcome reprieve amidst the otherwise constant stream of chaos that characterized the day to day routine of this one of a kind, hard to believe hotel. The esteemed, mildly ostracized princess of Hell had certainly poured her heart and soul (although she was just as devoid of both as anyone else) into the foundation and yet to be determined success of this unusual pet project. The first time Nova heard about it, she couldn’t help but laugh…while the entity she’d pledged her afterlife and loyalty to had been in the process of developing other, more productive plans.

Summary: Mitzi pulls some strings to organize a special arrangement that Nova has admittedly fantasized about for some time, suddenly finding herself roped into an unexpected predicament she won’t soon forget.

*Author’s Note*: I had a hard time coming up with a good prompt for this, and to be completely honest it isn’t really Halloween themed at all orz shame on me, I know, I’m sorry! In an attempt to make things a little more acceptable, I decided the party/part 2 follow up that I will (hopefully) get to at some point will just involve a Halloween themed party…which means this piece still counts, right? Even if it doesn’t I’m happy with how this turned out, I know it’s another abrupt ending but I really liked the cliffhanger and enjoyed writing the platonic interaction between Nova and Mitzi…they’re good friends, even if Mitzi doesn’t really have any qualms finding trouble to get Nova into. She’s just trying to be a good wingman, after all ;D based on a prompt i got on my self insert blog!
_____

“You did this!” Nova turned to see the culprit she was addressing sitting nearby. A chestnut haired woman with a smug, self-satisfied smile on her face. “You set this whole thing up…it’s your fault.”

“My fault? I thought you’d be thanking me,” the sly schemer, also commonly referred to as Mitzi, replied as she raised a hand to her chest. “After all, isn’t this the kind of situation you’ve been so desperately awaiting?”

Summary: Sometimes the silence between them is actually the loudest thing in the room. And sometimes the words they don’t want to hear are the ones they need to hear most.

*Author’s Note*: I know this ends kind of abruptly but…maybe I’ll be inspired to do a part 2 at some point? For some reason I’m apparently incapable of branching out from similar prompts for this particular ship (this one is also quite reminiscent of another one shot I did) but I really can’t find it in myself to change this because I do quite like how it turned out…and sometimes you just have to accept the bad stuff and use it as a stepping stone to something better.
_____

It’d been a while since she’d had a chance to sit with him like this. Huddled together in the apartment he was hesitant, arguably terrified, to ever risk opening up to anyone. That’s how he felt about everything in his life…everyone. Always keeping people at arm’s length and even further, a flame that singed anything that tried to get too close to its heat. But somehow she’d managed to convince him to let her in. She didn’t mind whatever skeletons he happened to be hiding, and would have been happy to help him bear those burdens if he could ever find the strength to share them with her.

Summary: When he leaves, all she wants to do is follow. Instead she’ll just have to settle for serving as an incentive for him to return.

*Author’s Note*: I’m fairly certain I’ve actually written another Mordecai fic almost exactly like this…but the internal commentary and discussion between the two is obviously different. I’d already drafted it before I realized my error, so I decided it couldn’t hurt to keep it, it’s not like this kind of exchange is an isolated incident anyway.
_____

“He’s sending you out on another one?”

Nova didn’t have to ask…she did so out of habit. It was partly just to get him talking, to see if she could get a more personal response from him. But Mordecai didn’t have a lot of personal feelings about anything, at least none he was willing to share. She’d coaxed him to mention a few words about himself here and there, random and rare occasions that she liked to think she was getting better at facilitating. Not because she wanted to manipulate him in any way, but because she wanted to understand him…because she wanted to be close to him.

Summary: Nova had always lacked the bravery and opportunity to bridge the ever widening gap between the mortal and immortal races. Luckily for her, she wasn’t necessarily the one that ended up bearing the responsibility for making that choice.

*Author’s Note*: A super vague fic that’s more just a reflection on Nova’s feeling as an immortal and how that factors into her feelings towards Desair because I love writing that kind of introspective stuff for some reason.
_____

She’d never expected to find such an agreeable mortal to befriend. She’d never intended to befriend a mortal at all, as much as she may have always desired to do so. Nova knew the risks, the nature of the schism that separated them, the lens through which mortals and immortals tended to view one another. Immortals could seem so short sighted and single minded, ambitious and frivolous to a fault, and that was just how they chose to process the world. That was the way they’d always done things, and being creatures of habit, frozen in time and typically uninterested in dwelling on petty mortal trivialities, it was surely what they would continue to do for many millennia to come.

Summary: Finding herself caught up in a dangerous exchange, Nova has just one priority: the general’s safety. Unfortunately, that implies there probably isn’t much self preservation left to spare for herself.

*Author’s Note*: Latter 2 fics for this week are going to be short, sorry about that orz my motivation has shifted entirely to something else, but I was determined to keep my schedule and write 3 fics for Desair this week. So I did…not a ton of substance in the situations over the prose, but I felt like they were worthwhile exercises anyway.
_____

It happened so fast, he barely had time to react. Actually, he didn’t have time, which was part of the problem. His life flashed before his eyes…or more accurately her life. The final image that was sure to be branded in his head until the end of time, and even if it was of her, it’d be the most painful scene he’d ever had the displeasure to witness. He wasn’t sure he could face whatever fate may be awaiting him when he finally found the strength to open his eyes again. To his surprise, and shock and relief, things appeared to be relatively normal as he observed his surroundings this second time. The events playing out before him were chaotic, but the atmosphere wasn’t sullied with any hints of regret or hopelessness. Summary: Desair reflects on the influence Nova has had on him since she’s come into his life, and it’s a more significant and confusing one than he originally anticipated. More than that, he realizes that there’s really nothing that could happen to make him regret knowing her, or the circumstances they find themselves sharing in the present. The happiness of the here and now is what he wants to focus on…and hopefully he’ll be able to do just that.

*Author’s Note*: Ran out of steam a little bit for this week but I’m going to valiantly attempt to press on! This is a simple introspective piece that came out of nowhere, taking place in the faerie verse rather than the one I first developed for this ship. It wasn’t something I was planning on writing but after I did I decided to keep it because I liked it so much.
_____

To be in love with an immortal…he was confident most people wouldn’t consider that a very auspicious situation to find themselves in. It wasn’t exactly hard to see why, where such people with better instincts of self preservation than him were coming from. Part of him didn’t want to bother looking past the present. Delving into the complicated tangle of the unknown future seemed more like a chore, or just a pain. If he was happy in the here and now, what was the point of worrying about the difficulties he was sure to face down the road? Even if things got unbearable, he was confident there was nothing that could make him wish he’d never met her.

Summary: Nishiki comes across some unique stones that remind him of a certain someone, and quickly becomes eager to share them with her and see exactly what she thinks of his dazzling discovery.

*Author’s Note*: This didn’t go exactly the way I intended, but that’s alright because I still think it came out cute. Just a little scenario based on the fact that apparently Nishiki really likes shiny things in canon, as well as sharing them with the people he cares about. For the record, the stones I mention in this fic 1) aren’t actually natural stones and 2) don’t actually have magical properties (ofc) but for the sake of the fantasy aesthetic I ignored both of those facts and just did whatever I wanted.
_____

It was both challenging and satisfying, making that outfit for her. He’d done it on a whim, without having to be asked, and without even really thinking about why he was doing it…or why he wanted to. Seeing her frightened, shaking form that night, eyes radiating apprehension and confusion…he knew that was an image he’d never forget. Clothes dirty and torn, barely holding herself together as she stumbled through the trees, acting on the assumption that perhaps in her human form it wouldn’t be as easy to mistake her as the prey they were tracking. But she’d never been prey, he knew that better than anyone, and he was determined to do everything he could to help her recover from that nightmare of an ordeal.

Summary: Nishiki stops by in the middle of one of Nova’s training sessions with Setsuna, and the turn their conversation takes ends up leading them both closer to a confession than either one is prepared to handle.

*Author’s Note*: For the record, I’ve never played Fates and I’ve only watched a few support convos and scanned some wiki pages to try and get a feel for these characters, so I apologize if Setsuna seems way off compared to her canon personality. But Nova’s specialty is usually bows or staff-like weapons in settings like this, so Setsuna was the perfect person to be her tutor. I also had a lot of fun writing the exchanges in this one…Nishiki is a soft boy, one of my favorite ones to write I think. I just love him a lot!
_____

It was a bright, sunny day; the perfect setting for an afternoon of training outdoors. Nova had been making great strides in honing her archery skills over the past few weeks, as hard as it was for her to see and even accept her own progress. Allegedly, those around her could see it as plainly as they could see the clear blue sky overhead, and they were intent on doing their part to encourage her and convince her of the legitimacy of her improvement. While she appreciated their support, she found it difficult to go any easier on herself. She had a lot to live up to, and a lot to overcome, and she didn’t want to let any sense of arrogance or cockiness keep her from remembering what she was doing this for in the first place…or rather, who.

_____

The late summer sun bore down with a searing intensity, and Nova was grateful for the shade the forest provided as she strolled along. Shafts of sunlight broke through the dense foliage that sheltered her, dappling the ground with golden pools that she danced around, playfully trying to avoid them as one might a puddle after fresh rain. She smiled, unable to suppress the joy she felt in this moment, the happiness that radiated from her heart, her entire being in general. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d been this carefree, this content, and she knew she’d probably never be equipped to properly compensate all the people she owed for giving her this happiness.

*Author’s Note*: Was inspired to write something tense and dramatic like this a while ago, finally got it typed up. Nothing special but a bit of a deviation from my usual MO in an effort to expand my horizons a bit.
_____

The air was heavy, smothering. It was almost enough to clog her lungs, to disrupt her senses long enough to make her lose sight of the objective. Lightning shattered the sky, the resounding thunder evidence of the broken pieces that scattered in its wake. Rain pounded the pavement, splashing and saturating every crack in the asphalt as she drug herself forward. She could have commanded the storm if she liked. She could have cleared a space in the downpour, formed a barrier like a dome to keep herself dry and safe…but in her fatigue she couldn’t spare any concentration for even the slightest exertion. There was no sense in wasting the dwindling dregs of her energy on such an empty, unproductive gesture.
